NRIs too have the RIGHT TO INFORMATION !

Like Indian Nationals, NRIs too have every right to know about the roles, rights, duties, and responsibilities of Government and Public Authorities.

A study suggests that 81% NRI paid bribes to Government department to get their requisite information at some stage in India. REASON – Ignorance of Right to Information Act, 2005.

As an NRI, you must have encountered the problem in three stages viz;

  • While leaving India - For instance getting your International Driver permit etc.
  • While in India – Information related to your land records, Information related to Tax Returns etc.
  • While abroad – Information related to P10 Card, OCI Card, Financial Portfolio, Real Estate, Taxatin, Disputes &nsbp; with Authorities.

You suffer silently because you do not know what to do. The answer is here – Right2Info.com.

A shocking survey reveals that 75% of NRIs are not aware of the RTI Act.

Hon`ble Supreme Court of India, in its landmark judgment in 2008, has confirmed the rights to all NRIs, Person of Indian Origin, Overseas Citizen of India, to seek information from any public authority, organization or institution under the RTI Act,2005. This ruling was made after an Appeal was filed by a U.S. based NRI scientist, Dr. Kunal Saha, after he was denied information by West Bengal Medical Council about the details of medical treatment given to his Late wife Dr. Anuradha Saha, at a Kolkata Hospital.

Now, any Indian citizen, resident abroad with a valid Indian Passport can file an RTI Application with the Public Information Officer after paying the requisite fee.
